Skye and her family have extraordinary powers over colours. They can move objects and things of their own colour at will.

For their autumn break, Skye goes to stay with her friend Bruno and his brown family, together with her little sister Ruby. Bruno shows the city girls his home, which does not have electricity, and his family’s lifestyle, which is eccentric even by the standards of the Hues.

Ruby enjoys the outdoors and the lack of a timetable and makes friends with Bruno’s siblings. But Skye begins to tire of the family’s recklessness. Soon the visitors are able to relax at the unbelievably beautiful Colour Spa. There, they float in pools of different colours, breathe colours and care for themselves in the most unusual ways.

But not everything is as it should be at the spa. Great-aunts Magenta, Malva and Anis, who run the business, seem tired, and there are problems of the building which are causing it to subside. And what on earth is going on in the closed wing of the spa, where black-and-white Hues faded by the Greyness are cared for?

Danger at the Colour Spa is the fourth volume in Vuokko Hurme’s children’s series The Hues. Reetta Niemensivu’s expressive line drawings are finished with brown details.
